Job Description

At Wavenet, we’re passionate about delivering exceptional technology solutions – and that starts with having the right internal cyber security to keep our teams running smoothly. We’re looking for a proactive Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join our internal Cyber Security team in Solihull.

As a Junior Cyber Security Engineer at Wavenet, you will work closely with the cyber security team to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential security threats. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all internal IT systems are secure and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

Help set up and maintain security measures across all internal IT systems.

Regularly check for vulnerabilities, rank them by risk, and fix them promptly.

Monitor alerts and escalate serious incidents when needed.

Support investigations into suspicious network activity or security events.

Collaborate with the IT team to resolve identified security issues.

Contribute to creating and updating IT security policies and procedures.

Ensure systems meet security standards and comply with regulations.

Communicate and work effectively with the infrastructure team.

Explain risks and solutions clearly to non-technical colleagues.

Keep up with the latest security threats, tools, and industry trends.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Cyber Security or related field (desirable, not essential).

Experience with IT security platforms and tools such as EDR/XDR, vulnerability management, intrusion detection and prevention systems, security information and event management systems and firewalls.

Basic understanding of networking protocols and infrastructure.

Experience with vulnerability assessment and penetration testing.

Analytical thinking, problem solving, clear communication and ethical integrity.

Knowledge of IT security best practices and regulatory requirements.

Other qualifications:

Professional IT security certifications such as (ISC)² Entry-Level Cyber Security Certification, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft SC-900 or GIAC Security Essentials, or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) are preferred but not required.

Experience working in a customer-focused environment.

A commitment to professional development and staying up to date with the latest IT security trends and threats.
