Software Developer

Location: Alpha Tower, Suffolk Street Queensway, Birmingham B1 1TT

Working style: 2 days per week in-office

With 50,000 users in 150 countries, they’re known for turning niche technical problems into smart, reliable software. Right now, they’re developing new predictive tools using AI to improve road safety.

They’re hiring a Software Developer in Birmingham to join their aviation-focused team. You'll work on large-scale desktop applications that are critical to airport operations worldwide — building new tools and improving existing products that run 24/7.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing and developing specialist software for aviation projects
• Improving, maintaining, and reinventing desktop applications
• Working closely with product managers and end users to shape requirements
• Writing code that solves technical and design problems faced by engineers
• Developing multithreaded, client/server apps using Java SE
• Helping the support, sales and marketing teams when needed
• Collaborating across a distributed team in an agile environment

What You’ll Need

• 3+ years of experience building Java SE desktop applications
• Experience with Java AWT/Swing, networking protocols (TCP/UDP), multithreading
• Solid knowledge of UI design, data modelling, and end-to-end testing
• Comfortable working independently and across time zones
• Strong communication skills — both written and verbal
• Experience designing large, reliable applications that run continuously
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
