We’re now looking for an experienced Full Stack Software Developer to join our Cloud Services Team (AWS). You’ll design and develop modern business analytics applications that operate on large, complex datasets within scalable cloud environments.

About the Role

The role focuses primarily on front-end technology solutions built with modern JavaScript frameworks and Java-based web services. These services support powerful search capabilities across multiple database technologies — from analytic search engines to traditional relational and graph databases.

You’ll work in a DevOps environment, balancing incremental delivery with innovation and experimentation to improve solutions continuously.

You’ll develop and support mission-critical policing systems, with plenty of opportunities to grow your career across varied projects and technologies within West Midlands Police IT & Digital.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and implement web applications in support of operational policing
  • Collaborate within the Cloud Services Team and across IT & Digital to maximise value and share expertise
  • Put people first, improving user experience, maintainability, reliability, security, and value for money
  • Research, learn, and apply new technologies to enhance current and future solutions

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong collaboration skills within multidisciplinary software teams
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical designs
  • Proven experience building modern web applications including responsive UIs, REST-based APIs, and SQL data manipulation
  • Several years’ experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (Angular, React, Vue)
  • Skilled in writing Java application code
  • Experience designing and interpreting relational data models
  • Ability to rapidly prototype ideas into functional solutions
  • Understanding of client-server and 3-tier architectures, plus familiarity with cloud computing concepts
  • Experience using source code version control in collaborative environments

Desirable Skills

  • Experience developing within a Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline
  • Experience with graph databases and traversal query languages
  • Practical knowledge of serverless cloud environments
  • Understanding and implementation of OAuth 2.0 authentication/authorisation for Single Page Applications (SPAs)
