Tech Stack: Java, Python, Scala, Spark, SQL, Linux, Snowflake, Airflow, Tableau, Sybase IQ

If you’re driven by meaningful challenges, thrive on data at scale, and want to see the direct impact of your work in real-time risk decisions, this is a role worth your time.

Goldman Sachs is hiring a Senior Risk Engineer to help shape the future of risk tooling. You’ll be part of a high-performing global team solving deep technical problems that sit at the intersection of finance, data, and distributed systems.

You’ll engineer powerful tools that process complex risk metrics at speed and scale. You’ll also get the chance to guide less experienced developers, contribute to critical decision-making platforms, and be part of a team that takes software seriously.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Building risk calculation platforms used across the firm
  • Working with huge datasets using HDFS, Spark, Snowflake, and Sybase IQ
  • Designing backend systems in Java, Python, or Scala to support real-time and batch processing
  • Developing front-end components and visualisations in ReactJS and Tableau
  • Tuning performance to improve compute efficiency
  • Mentoring junior engineers and reviewing code
  • Collaborating with risk managers and business users to build software that works in the real world
  • Writing batch jobs and scheduling tasks using tools like Airflow

What You’ll Need

  • 6–9 years of experience in software engineering, ideally in risk or finance
  • Strong knowledge of Java or Scala, Python, and distributed computing
  • Solid understanding of software design, data structures, and performance tuning
  • Experience with large-scale databases (Snowflake, Sybase IQ) and compute clusters
  • Comfortable working in Linux and writing shell scripts
  • Experience with TDD and build tools like Maven or Gradle
  • Previous work with scheduling platforms (e.g. Airflow)
  • Nice to have: experience in Slang/SECDB (Goldman Sachs proprietary tech)

Why This Role
You’ll work in a fast-paced, high-impact team that’s solving some of the hardest problems in risk and data infrastructure. You’ll be surrounded by top-tier engineers, and your work will have visibility at the highest level.

You won’t be writing code no one uses. You’ll be building tools that help the firm understand and manage real risk.
