Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Lead Technology Developer to join our team.

You’ll be a key player in the digital transformation of services within Ofsted, focusing on developing new modern applications. You’ll help deliver these quality services in line with project goals and delivery cycles.

You’ll enjoy working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams across one or more projects. You’ll also have experience working under agile methods. You’ll be keen to share your knowledge and experience with other team members.

You’ll have a flexible approach, responding to changing business priorities but always keeping user needs at the heart of what we develop.

This role involves the use of low code platforms, and you must have development experience of:

  • Power Apps.
  • Power Automate.
  • Power BI.
  • Dataverse.
  • Dynamics 365.

You’ll have an interest in developing low code applications to support organisation processes and implement improvements to enhance colleague efficiencies. You’ll also have experience of creating the Azure DevOps pipelines and repos, so that low code applications can be deployed in a robust ALM process.

As a development team we strive to develop accessible applications (where applicable) using the GOV.UK Design System and knowledge of this would be beneficial as well as knowledge of general design and accessibility concepts.

PL-200: Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate certification. (Desirable)

Technical skills

  • Strong hands-on experience of developing in all five of the following technologies: Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Bi, Dataverse, and Dynamics 365 (Essential)
  • An understanding of build and release pipelines and CI/CD principles. (Essential)
  • A good understanding about security, permissions and accessibility in the Power Platform. (Essential)
  • Experience of sharing knowledge with, as well as mentoring team members. (Essential)
  • A methodical and organised approach to their work, including effective prioritisation and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. (Essential)
  • Experience in the following would be beneficial: , HTML/CSS , JSON/XMLAML , Customisation of PCF’s in JavaScript. (Desirable)

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

Application and Shortlisting

The selection panel will assess your personal statement to (in no more than 1000 words) outline how you meet the key essential skills and experience required for the role as set out in the job advert and the job description, section 3.

You will also be asked to provide information within the “Employer/Activity History” section of the application form. This information is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV setting out your career history (this may be used in the sifting process).

Interview

Candidates who pass the benchmark at the shortlisting stage will be invited to an interview at where they will be assessed against a mixture of the Civil Service behaviours and the experience skills set out in section 3 of the job specification.

Interviews will be held during week commencing Monday 10 November 2025 remotely via Microsoft Teams
