Backend Software Engineer

The Role

Gymshark is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team.

You will work within a product-focused squad, aligned to key business priorities, building scalable backend solutions that support continued growth. The role uses modern tooling including Golang, event-driven architecture, and AWS serverless technologies to deliver reliable, high-impact systems.

This is a hands-on engineering role with exposure to high-traffic services, especially during peak sales periods where platform performance is critical.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Build features and fix bugs to help your team deliver high-quality software on time
• Use Golang to develop and maintain APIs, services, and integrations
• Design and implement event-driven solutions supporting critical business processes
• Create, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines
• Build scalable backend systems using AWS serverless technologies including Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, and DynamoDB
• Write testable, maintainable, and scalable code aligned with engineering standards
• Work within an Agile development environment
• Maintain existing services with strong observability and proactive monitoring
• Respond to incidents when required, particularly during peak trading periods

What You’ll Need

Essential Experience

• Commercial experience writing production software in Golang or another strongly typed language
• Experience working in an Agile engineering environment
• Experience building or maintaining scalable APIs
• Experience using cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Strong working knowledge of Git
• Experience implementing testing best practices including unit and contract testing

Nice to Have

• Experience with serverless platforms such as AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Run, or Azure Functions
• Demonstrable experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Experience designing and managing databases with an understanding of relational and non-relational models
• Understanding of event-driven architecture concepts
• Familiarity with branching strategies and version control workflows
